DISTINCTCOUNT: active employees per month

Mrs. Lestari from the HR team wants to know how many employees actually appear in the attendance log each month of Q1 2025. A few employees resigned mid-quarter, so the number can drop from month to month.

Task

Create the measure Karyawan Aktif (active employees) in the Attendance table that counts the number of distinct employees (column Attendance[EmployeeID]) in the attendance table.
Visual: department (Departments[Department]) × month (Calendar[MonthName]).

Hint 1
COUNTROWS ( Attendance ) counts attendance days, not people. One employee has dozens of attendance rows in a month.
Hint 2
You need a function that counts the unique values of a column: DISTINCTCOUNT ( Table[Column] ).
Hint 3
The column to count is the employee ID in the attendance table (Attendance), not in the Employees table.

Reveal them one at a time. The last hint nearly gives the answer away.

Give it a try first. The solution unlocks automatically after your first check.

Answer

Karyawan Aktif

Karyawan Aktif = DISTINCTCOUNT ( Attendance[EmployeeID] )

Explanation

DISTINCTCOUNT ( Attendance[EmployeeID] ) counts the unique employee IDs in the attendance rows that survive the cell filters. The month filter from Calendar flows into Attendance through the date relationship, so employees who resigned no longer appear in later months: the total is 40 in January, 39 in February and 36 in March.

If you use COUNTROWS ( Employees ), you always get 40 because the Calendar filter never reaches the Employees table (filters flow from Employees to Attendance, not the other way).
The quarter total is 40, not 40 + 39 + 36: the same person is counted once. A measure is always re-evaluated in the total row, it does not just add up the cells above.
