Calculated columns

Add a new column computed row-by-row.

  1. Step 1: Select the Sales table, then Table tools → New column, and type this DAX expression:

    DAX 
    Profit = Sales[Revenue] - Sales[Cost]

  2. Step 2: The new column appears in the Data pane, ready to use in visuals.

    Watch out: Columns are stored in the model and use memory. For aggregations, prefer measures.
