Your first measure

A calculation that responds to filters and context.

  1. Step 1: Table tools → New measure, then type:

    DAX 
    Total Revenue = SUM(Sales[Revenue])

  2. Step 2: Drop the measure into a Card visual — it recalculates as you slice.

  3. Step 3: Format the measure (currency, decimals) once in Measure tools — it sticks everywhere the measure is used.

    Tip: Measures don’t use storage and are the heart of Power BI. Reach for them first.
